Julie Anne Roughan

Julie Anne Roughan aged 65

Born in Gravesend on the 4th August 1954 sadly passed away on the 29th March 2020 after almost 5 years of battling with
multiple myeloma and kidney failure.

Her parents En & Sheila Williamson moved to Hatfield when Julie was 7 where she went to Broad Oaks junior school. Onslow secondary school is where she made lots of friends and advanced her desire for learning. Julie left home at the age of 18 for Stoke Rochford Teachers Training College near Grantham where, in her final degree year she met Gordon by accepting a ride on the back of a 750cc Norton. Julie was an excellent pillion and definitely up for an adventure.
Julie & Gordon moved to St Albans in the hot summer of 1976 and were married at St Etheldreda’s church in Hatfield in 1978. Julie was a teacher in North London where she made many life-long friends. In 1982 Julie & Gordon moved to Wilkins Green Lane where,
she transformed their house into a warm and welcoming family home, and it remains so to this current day.

Michelle came to live with Julie & Gordon in 1984. Julie was crucial in Michelle’s development and had a close connection with her grandchildren Hannah & Izzy who affectionately called her Glamma. Josh and Dan, adopted at an early age, were treasured and nurtured by Julie and she loved watching her boys grow into the talented and caring young men they are today. After teaching, Julie was a counsellor and therapist working for Relate, Sova and Circles. She also became a trainer for several charities and was involved with mentoring offenders, giving her time to help others within her wider community.

In 2018, Julie and Gordon celebrated their Ruby wedding anniversary at home, surrounded by family and friends. Julie was beautiful inside and out with the biggest heart. Her smile lit up any room and her compassion for people was palpable. She listened and helped in any way that she could. Julie will be remembered as a true party animal and needed no excuse for a glass of bubbles to share with anyone in her presence. Her positivity and resilience were amazing throughout her life and with her battle with Myeloma and kidney
failure.

Gordon and the family would like to thank you all for your visits, messages, cards and flowers throughout her illness. She truly
was thankful. Julie deserved so much love and kindness. A truly fabulous lady that we all feel privileged to have had in our lives and
loved!!
